Twitter

12/20/2010

I created a twitter account for the KCAC. For those that are unfamiliar, twitter is a good tool for groups like the KCAC to communicate better. It's basically the equivalent of having mass text messaging on our phones. If you have a smart phone, you can sign up on twitter's mobile site, or load a twitter app on your phone. To sign up:
Go to www.twitter.com and create a new account. Once you have joined, search under people for "kcathleticclub", then select "follow". Once you are following, you'll receive notifications every time I announce something regarding KC handball. If you are having trouble setting it up, run me down next time I'm at the club and I'll help set it up. This is going to be the preferred method to getting short news mentions and links out, so you'll get more up to date news from this source.

Missouri State Doubles

12/09/2010

From Lou Serrone

The potential of not having adequate guest locker room and shower facilities for the January Mo State Doubles Tournament has allowed the Kansas City Handball Community the opportunity of a never before experience. On January 21, 22, and 23 the Mo State Doubles Tournament is going to be held at The Athletic Club in Overland Park. I hope you are as excited as I am to make history by hosting and playing in this great event.

Entry forms will be out next week.

Luigi

KCK YMCA Tuesday nights

12/06/2010

From Bill Fish

All the Kansas City Handball community is pleased with the success from the Wimbledotte Tournament and wants to keep the interest moving forward. Currently, we have the month of December to host a league from the tournament attendees to continue playing compliments of the YMCA. Although you can use the pass anytime to play, Wade Margita and I are organizing Tuesday evening as a time to get everyone together and have a handball league. We are starting this Tuesday so please reply if you can attend (5:30-6:00 start) and we will get some matchups scheduled. If you know of any other people interested in joining the league let us know and give me their contact information.

Also, for those interested, Jim Cosentino has extended a league invitation on Thursday night at the Athletic Club of Overland Park (103rd & Marty). This where the rest of Kansas City's handball community has their annual league for the winter months. Let me know if you are interested in this as well and I will get you in touch with Jim Cosentino.

Thanks,
Bill Fish

So if you are a beginner handball player in the KC area and looking for a time and place to play with other beginners, here is a great opportunity to learn more about the game. On Thursday the courts at OP are reserved for league matches, but we will be able to play on them as soon as they open, which is usually around 6:30-7:00pm. We will either do instruction or open play, depending on what everyone wants to do. Please contact me in advance for this Thursday and I will add you to the guest list. If you are an OP member, it is free. If you are not, it is $5 to get in.

WimbleDotte Recap

11/24/2010

After a very fun weekend, the WimbleDotte champ is as foggy as my head. The YMCA closed before we could settle the winner and it will be postponed until an agreed upon time and place can be reached. Here's how it all shook out:

Friday night about half the new players showed up to warm up and learn the rules of the game. We topped the night off with Sutera's, beer, and some toxic margaritas. The bracket was drawn up and the new players were eager to get on the court. The matches kicked off Saturday morning around 9am. By the time it got going we had an official 30 entries in. There was a lot of heart shown by the new players and the majority of the matches were settled by tie breakers. The semi's featured four fantastic new players, and both matches went to a tie breaker. The losers in both showed great potential and with a bit more skill, should make great contenders within 6 months. The two finalists, Gerald Sparks and Andy Sachen both had big game ability and are sure to deliver a helluva final. I will update the site as soon as it is scheduled. The players all did an amazing job, no easy feat considering they've never played and barely knew anyone in the tournament. We are planning "handball nights" at the YMCA for more instruction and more games for these guys, and we're also going to work them into the OP League. Semifinalists from the main bracket and the drop down have been entered into the handballesta as well. I will update the site as all this information comes out. Click here to view the pictures from the tournament, and Click here to view the brackets. Thanks to our donors, who made all of this possible, we're printing some more shirts and will pass them out to everyone who helped make this possible. WimbleDotte 3 wall is coming in 6 months, start recruiting!

WimbleDotte

11/11/2010

Saturday, November 20th, the greatest handball tournament ever will be held. Handball players are not allowed to participate in this tournament, only non-handball players are allowed. The prize for winning the WimbleDotte is a paid membership to the KCAC (estimated worth: $1 million). Runner up and semifinalists will receive a paid entry to the 64th annual Handballesta held in Overland Park Athletic Club on the weekend of December 4th. Handballesta entry includes tournament shirt, food, drinks, and VIP accommodations to Touche's night club on Friday night. Participants in the WimbleDotte will receive equipment, free passes to the YMCA, souvenir, lessons, and dinner and beer Saturday night...all complimentary. This is a one-time chance to learn the Perfect Game from professionals, join a strong fraternity of friends, and get the workout of a lifetime. GET YOUR ENTRY IN!!!

Contact any of the tournament committee if you have any questions.

More stuff

09/07/2010

Next Monday at the KCAC, there will be handball, some cooking of carcass, and drinking beverages that make some read the dictionary to tunes of barry manilow. Oh, and I think that there is a football game on that evening too. So, if you like to spend time with other men in a small confined room, while watching other men on TV run around in tight pants, this is your lucky day.

And finally, congrats to our very own Hector Facio Junior on his second National 3 wall title. Junior won the Contender B bracket, defeating St. Louis' Matt Recker. Way to go Junior, we're very proud of you.

Fore!!!

09/07/2010

Here is the flier for the 83rd Annual KCAC Fall Golf tournament. Ahh, yes, it seems like just yesterday that a young Jim Sutera took the first title 83 years ago. Anyway, please reply to your tournament directors (Hogan/C. Scherzer) with your teams and prepare for fun filled day including but not limited to: three-legged race, the keg roll, face painting, the urinal toss, the seat sniff-off and of course the Ducker’s unicycle show.

Have a nice day and remember: If you have a big head, do a lot of neck exercises.

Disidore

Fall Tournaments

09/01/2010

The Heart of America will be Oct 1st - 3rd, the Bear Bash in Springfield, MO will be Oct 15th - 17th, and the Handballesta will be December 3rd - 5th. The WimbleDotte details are still being sorted out, we can't get a date yet because nobody understands what the squirrel is saying. But it will be outdoor, we're going to have a non-handball handball bracket, and Disidore has promised to wear his jean shorts again.

Golf Tournament

08/26/2010

from Disidore...

May I have your attention, please?.....ehm, may I have your attention, please (megaphone please)..HEY!!!

Thank you.. now then, the annual KCAC fall golf tourney will be held on September the 29th at Sunflower country club. Tee time will be at noonish (exact time TBD). This is a key fundraiser for the KCAC so participation is needed and greatly appreciated. This will help pay for property taxes, maintenance on the courts, deck, house, utility bills, etc.. The proceeds will not be used for jim sutera’s dead tomato farm, hogan’s handball lessons or Serrone’s research to come up with a handball made out of bacon.

Mark “it hit something” Hogan and Craig “that’s my thong” Scherzer will be Co-tournament directors for this event (God, help us).

This message has ended, now go in peace.

Brother, tocco, lead us in a closing prayer:

If you don't have your start time yet please call Serrone. I will post the brackets as soon as they are finalized.

Colorado Doubles

07/27/2010

The Colorado Doubles is the week after the Quirk, 8/19 - 8/21. Load up the family and play handball in the rockies, it doesn't get any prettier than that. John Denver may have written a song about this kind of thing.

Quirk entry is up! Find a partner and get it in.

KC3 Wall

07/12/2010

After 4 long days, the WPH/Ektelon KC 3 Wall Fireball Classic wrapped up yesterday. The ceremonial post tournament beer luge did not occur, but we had fun nonetheless. Thursday began with showers that pushed matches back over 2 hours, but we recovered well and the matches all took place. The weather Friday and Saturday was superb. Disidore's deck canopy turned out to be a stroke of genius as it sheltered everyone on the deck the whole weekend. The action on the court was very exciting as the world's best outdoor players gave their all, but in the end only Luis Moreno was standing atop the pro bracket, setting himself up as the likely favorite for 3 wall Nationals. The masters bracket was won Saturday by Joel Rush and Tom Disidore. The Golden Masters division was cut short by injury when Bobby Vickers went down in the final on Sunday, giving the competitive division to Chicago champs Jimmy Devito and Mark Murphy. The Super Golden Division was won convincingly by the St. Louis/Kansas City combo of Jerry Soke and Chris Bolling. And the Contenders division closed the day with an exciting tie breaker won by Dave Vincent of Tucson, Arizona over the KCAC's Hector Facio Senior. A great weekend with cold beer, tasty food, cozy weather, and great handball. What more could you ask for? Cute girls? We had those too.

Can't wait for the Quirk. See you then.

Burly

06/29/2010

Ron “Burly” Breshears passed away yesterday from complications from a liver transplant that he received this last Friday. There is no beginning or end in describing what a good friend he was. The KCAC will never be the same without him. Final, Final Burls. You will be sorely missed my friend.

To his wife Vicky, May God Bless you and your family.

All Rise

06/28/2010

This Saturday July 3rd the one and only Sutera’s Worst Handball tournament will feature: handball, angus (turns 93), food, cold beverages, music and so on and so forth. A $10 donation for your attendance and participation would be greatly appreciated. Just put your money into the hand of any Sutera and it will be lovingly taken care of (gone).

This is the handball tournament that you’ve all been waiting for. This tournament is strategically timed to maximize the attendance of the most skilled athletes in the world. The early Olympics in Greece? The duels in the roman coliseum? BAH!! Such fodder is for mere mortals. You want true grit and competition? You want to witness the real clash of the handball titans? You want the truth? YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!

Deck update

06/22/2010

HUGE thanks to the following people for their tireless work in power washing and staining the deck:

  • Tommy Little
  • Al Viets
  • Amy Viets
  • Aaron Viets
  • Phil "Dogman"
  • Eric Storm
  • Mike Gardner
  • Jim Sutera
  • Jack Jarrett
  • Kenny Belko

Please respect the hard work that these guys did by keeping the deck clean, especially as we get ready for the KC 3 Wall in the next couple of weeks. Pick up your tape, bottles, cans and anything else you may leave behind.

Wednesday Night at Kelly's

06/08/2010

Tomorrow night (Wednesday) at Kelly’s in Westport there will be a handball mob that will be forming at around 5:30 pm for happy hour festivities. Part of that mob will include a certain Bobby Martin who will deliver the shocking news that he is in fact Dean Martin’s illegitimate son. Also on tap, Pat Kelly will be performing “I’m a little tea cup” and Lou Serrone while be autographing sausage sandwiches. This will also be a going away party for Sean Walleck who is moving to New Orleans to take a new job. His company big shots will be attending so don’t be surprised if he acts like he doesn’t know you.

Mark Manning

06/02/2010

Mark Manning passed away on the past Memorial Day. The Manning family has deep roots in the KC handball community: Moe Sutera (Manning), Shane Manning, Terry Manning are all part of our handball group. Mark was a handball fan and attended several handball matches here in KC to watch his brother Terry and nephew Shane.

Obituary

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Cross Points Church, 6824 Lackman Road, Shawnee, KS 66217. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Friends are invited to share memories during a time for reflections from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

May God bless his soul and bless the Manning family.

KC3 Wall/Fireball Classic

05/03/2010

July 8th - 11th, the KC 3 wall will be host to the WPH's Fireball Classic pro stop series. The Open/Pro division will feature the largest prize money ever for an outdoor tournament. All of the other usual brackets will be featured. But due to the potential large turnout, please get your entry in early so that you will not be left out. We only have 2 courts and 3 days to fit them in on, so we will have to limit brackets if it gets too crowded. There are going to be a lot of new features for this tournament, including reserved seating, beer girls, ball boys for the semi's and on, great meals, and many other exciting perks. The tournament committee is already working hard on making this a first class event. Click here for the entry form. Please review the attached sponsor sheet if you are interested in a reserved seat, donor gift, or helping out with this event or the Quirk tournament, coming August 12th. Stay tuned for more updates.

Spring Cleaning

04/23/2010

May I have your attention please?...ehm, check, check..

The KCAC clean up day will be May 8th. Please bring stuff to rake, sweep, vacuum, clean, wipe, scrape, move, store, remove, unstore and things of this type. Weed and bug killer is also needed. A list of duties will be posted at the KCAC for your consideration.

Wednesday, May 12th afternoon/night is the official opening day at the KCAC. Rather than play handball, drink beverages and eat food, there will a waterslide, bologna throw, and hot air balloon rides. Be sure to get your tokens from Jim Cosentino, who will be wearing wooden clogs with a colorful pair of short pants overalls and a corn cob pipe.

Lastly, the sheriff of Nottingham will hereby be affectionately known as “Pickles”.

Funeral notes

04/08/2010

From Serrone...

What the family would like is that the Handball Community sit in close proximity to one another and everyone (All of Use Guys) bring a pair of handball gloves.

At the end of the service in honor of Bill they would like for the handball guys to put on their gloves and form two processional lines that the casket will flow between.

Anyway I will talk to the funeral director and try and get more details to you by early tomorrow morning, however, worst case scenario just follow my lead and bring your handball gloves in honor of Norm.

Boys lets get this done for Norm – “TWO AND OUT”

Bill Strawn

04/05/2010

Despite starting handball late in life, he still went on to win multiple National Championships. I will provide information on his services when it becomes available.

God gained a helluva soldier this morning.

Bill Strawn

Leona Martin

02/05/2010

From Tom Disidore...

Frank Martin’s mother, Leona, passed away last night from a failing heart condition.

This morning alone, I have received several emails from handball players to notify me of her passing so that I may send out the news. The number of emails and the posts from people in the threads with their accounts of fond memories of her is a testament to her character and to the fact that she will be missed but never forgotten. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.

May God Bless her soul and the Martin family.

Sutera's Worst/Angus is 92

07/02/2009

From Disidore:

The KCAC and the Sutera family cordially invite you to the Annual World's Worst Handball tourney with a special happy birthday to the woman that is responsible for this mess, Agnes Sutera. This event will occur this Saturday starting at around 10am and will end when the police show up. If you would like to attend, please bring yourself, your bag of moldy handball gear, a camera (for when a nude Mrs. Sutera jumps out of the cake), and Jim Sutera's lost toof (if you have it). Because this tournament has properties similar to quick sand, you can get in at any time but will never get out. All day long there will be food, handball and beverages for the low, low cost of $11.50/person. Failure to ante up will be met with a sumo squeeze from the Bookend Brothers, Dogman and Coia.

Have a nice day.

News Updates

06/25/2009

Declan Thomas Disidore made his early arrival late last week. Congratulations to Kelly and Tommy on their new baby boy.

Unfortunatley, the Strawn family has been recently challenged with a diagnosis of stomach cancer for Bill. I am sketchy on the details at this point but the situation is obviously serious and is of great concern. If anyone can whip this deal, it would be Norm "Two and Out" Strawn.

Also please keep the Marshall family and the Frey family in your prayers as they go through their own difficult times.

Pete Thornton

03/16/2009

From Disidore:

To those who have not already heard, one of our Handball brothers, Pete Thornton recently passed away. As all handball players know, when you’re a beginner, getting a match can be a challenge. Pete was one of the few that always agreed to play me. I’d rant and rave while this old, out of shape guy beat me up and down the court. After winning a volley, Pete would calmly walk to the service line, turn to look me right in the eye, called the score and smiled. Drove me nuts. I have very fond memories of my friend, Pete Thornton, and wish his family well.

Sat. March 28th from 2pm to 4pm, a Memorial service will be held for Pete Thornton at Kingston Oaks Homes Assoc. and is located on 97th Circle at Reeder Rd.. To get there, take Nieman Rd. to 97th Circle and go east to the intersection of 97th Circle and Reeder. It is directly east of Oak Park Mall.

OP league information

09/19/2008

After a lively draft Wednesday night, the 2008 OP league teams were formed. A few minor changes were made from last year and are highlighted on the rules and schedule pages. Please click on the links below or on the menu to your left to view the rosters, schedule, ratings updates, and the rules. If you have not heard from your captain yet, please make an effort to contact him and indicate your availability for the season. If you do not see your name on any of the team rosters, please let one of the captains know that you would like to play this year. You can also send an email to kcathleticclub@yahoo.com, but posting it on this website means I will now get about 500 spam emails and it will be tough to find your email...anyway:

Also, there is a new poll to the left. Who will win the league?

OP Handball league

09/12/2008

The OP handball league will be on THURSDAYS this year. You're votes are worth nothing. Just kidding, besides the online poll, there was a very strong interest to moving it to Thursday nights. The rules are going to be the same as last year with a few minor tweaks. We are having the draft next Thursday (09/18) and the first week of the season is going to be Thursday, October 2nd. We will either not have league the weeks of tournaments and holidays, or we are going to schedule for Tuesday during those weeks. We will not have league October 9th before the Heart of America. Your captains this year are going to be:

  • Rob Gaither
  • Chris Herbig
  • Lou Serrone
  • Tom Disidore

Wormburner postponed

09/08/2008

Wormburner golf has been postponed until September 22-23 due to inclement weather. I will update as soon as I find out when it is re-scheduled.

Next week

09/04/2008

We have a big week ahead of us, so get home and get plenty of rest.
First on Monday, we have the annual wormburner golf classic. Which exposes handball players clearly as one sport ponies (if that even).

Finally we end the week with the First ever WimbleDotte. It was almost unanimous in the response for the Friday night grudge match. So we are currently having one match at 6pm with a possible second to follow. In other words, bring your gear. The matchup this time around will be defending champs Tom "Foot crook" Bembynista and Lou "Spaghetti head" Serrone -vs- Bill "Retirement Shmetirement" Skelly and Russ "Geppetto" Finkle. This is not set in stone, but is very likely. After the grudge match from Friday we will re-group and start the tournament on Saturday at 1pm. We are not accepting players after Tuesday, so if you haven't already, click here and fill out the online form.

WimbleDotte update

08/26/2008

Ok, WimbleDotte is green-lit and ready to go. The entry form is online for the first time. Click here to access the form. I have also created a PDF giving out all of the tournament information. Click here to access it. The due date to get your entry in is Tuesday, September 9th. I will try to have the bracket online and at the club by the end of the week.

Quirk Results

08/11/2008

The weather slowed the party down a bit Saturday morning, but the rain quickly departed and made way for great handball after that. In the Open, Chip continues to have a great summer as he and Al Garner defeated Little and Disidore in two games on Sunday. In the Contenders, Duckers and Willis, team Chinstrap Ryan, looked like veterans as they handled their counterparts in Orel and Recker with a tough fought tie-breaker. Eric Storm and Sean Walleck took down rivals Joel Rush and Bobby Vickers in the Masters. Walleck survived a bloody collision from Saturday with Paul Pfannenstiel that left him with a nasty cut on his upper lip. In the 50's, Bembynista and Serrone kept their stranglehold on that division with their 3rd outdoor win in a row, taking down St. Louis' Pettus and Smith. And the 60's was another 3 wall slam as Duckers and Bolling backed up their 3 wall win from July by defeating Coz and Bircher. A great weekend was had by all and again we thank our out of town friends for coming in.

KC 3 Wall Results

07/21/2008

Closest I'll ever get to a trophy!

(I congratulate the champs on a great final)

Emmett Peixoto showed the KCAC once again why he is one of the best in 3 wall handball. He dominated the field as he captured his 1st KCAC 3 wall championship and his 3rd KCAC trophy in less than a year. He defeated hometown favorite Chip Morales, who was in his 2nd final in 3 years. Chip fought hard, but Emmett's array of shots coupled with the oppressive heat eventually overwhelmed Morales.
In the Contenders, Tony Orel finally got the monkey off his back and won the contenders by edging out the up and coming St. Louis native Matt Recker. The 2 hour battle in the triple digit heat nearly exhausted the competitors, but they both fought till the very end.
The Masters final went off with a fizzle when Bobby Vickers failed to show up, leaving his partner and opponents with nothing but a beer to look forward to.
The Golden Masters delivered an epic battle between two heavyweight teams that won each 3 wall championship last year. Defending champs Skelly and Nass took on Quirk champs Bembynista and Serrone. Skelly and Nass gave it all they could, but just came short of scoring that 21st point in the first game before the challengers started their rally. It was all Benny and Serrone from there on as the Quirk champs never looked back and took the 2008 title, and now look to slam 3 wall with a victory in the Quirk in 3 weeks.
The Super Golden featured a new pairing that could be a fierce team when Dave Duckers paired up with Chris "answer man" Bolling. Playing against Cosentino and Chuck Smrha, the new team looked unbeatable as they sent shot after shot deep and to the left, giving their opponents little opportunity to get on offense.
Overall the weekend was a great time and we always thank and welcome back our out of town friends. See you in three weeks for the QUIRK!

I will be updating the site soon with maps and information about getting around in Kansas City and how to get to the KCAC from Nationals.

3 Wall tournament

04/08/2008

The week of Nationals, we will be having a 3 wall outdoor tourney for anyone eliminated from the USHA brackets. There are very little details given to me at the moment, but it will be cheap and very fun. So if you're coming in, make sure you don't skip out of town immediately after you lose. There's plenty more handball to play on the best outdoor courts in the country. Stay tuned for more info.

PS - The KC 3 Wall has been moved to July to accommodate Nationals

Last weekend

04/01/2008

April Fools

If you feel slighted or embarrassed because you were sucked in by this, don't be. Just about everyone was roped in on this one. If they tell you they knew it was a joke, they're lying. And we got the voicemails, emails, and PMs to prove it. Gotcha!

As most of you had already heard, there was an incident over the weekend. Phil is doing better and recovering at home. Any well wishes can be sent to the club at 845 Armstrong, Kansas City, KS 66101. As for repercussions, there’s not much we can do about it as Jim London was invited and was in the responsibility of a KCAC member. I will post any updates as Dog’s condition improves.

Sent to me by Lou:

Bailey had 4 By Pass surgery today! DR. Came out and told Emily that John did well and that they were cleaning him up!

I left @ 3:00 PM and Emily thought it would be another hour before she would get to see John for the first time.

John will not be allowed to have any visitors except for immediately family until he is out of ICU!

Emily asked that instead of calling her for updates that everyone go to the Website:
www.caringbridge.org
Login is: johnbailey (No Spaces you morons!)

Emily will post updates to the johnbailey website every day!

PS - We want Bailey to recover so please, No Hog Dog!

Indoor season is upon us

09/26/2007

Now that everyone is going inside, here's what we have to look forward to this winter:

  • 43rd annual Heart Of America tournament (10/12/07) - This annual singles/doubles tournament is coming up in three weeks, so get your entry form and payment in. I have the link to the entry form and online site at the top of the page, and I'll keep it up there until tourney time.
  • OPAC handball league (10/23/07) - We've made some changes to the league, and as soon as it's all finalized look for some big updates coming to the league section of this website. We're having a meeting with the captains to go over the changes next week, then the draft is the 16th, with league play the following Tuesday.
  • MSU Bear Bash (11/16/07) - Missouri State's annual fundraiser tournament is coming up in mid-November, let's send some KC representation down there this year and help out our college buddies. Entry Form here.
  • 61st annual Handballesta (11/30/07) - The country's oldest tournament will be at the end of November at the OPAC again this year. Don't miss this one.
  • KCAC Roast (December '07) - A lot of misbehavers this year, so who gets slaughtered for it all will be quite a contested race. Stay tuned for this one.
  • KCK handball league (late December '07) - We'll be starting up the KCK league towards the end of the OP league. Slated for late December, this could start in January depending on dates with the OP league. Continuing our new tradition, we're going to build on what was fun last year. Dinner and drinks we'll be mandatory after the matches.
  • The Bob Symon memorial tournament - Take a drive up to beautiful St. Joe and play in Scot and Jon Symon's annual handball bash. Fun and always competitive, and there's even a gentlemen's club across the street from the courts. Can it get any more stressful? Click here for more info.

We've got plenty of handball to occupy us until we can play 3 wall again, so I guess we'll make the best of it. If there's anything I left off that you would like to see added, let me know.

Results from Tuesday night Grudge match

09/12/2007

Last nights undercard match ended in controversy when Charlie "Pizza Boy" Sutera went down with a final point "injury". Charlie's hamstring seemed to have seized up on him right as Nick "Out" Scherzer and his partner Mark "Double Fault" Slogan were getting ready to score the match point. Charlie also cried foul by accusing his substituted partner, Eric "Perfect" Storm of taking a dive. Until a consensus is reached regarding the hullabaloo from last night, Mark Slogan has assumed control of Charlie's restaurant, Sutera's Old San Francisco in the West Bottoms. Slogan has immediately lowered beer prices, raised all of the staff's salary, and wiped clean Eric Storm's outstanding beer tab. I will update more on this story as it develops.

Bear Bash 2007

09/12/2007

From Eric Hillgren

The Bear Bash will be held the weekend of the 16th-18th in November, as we mentioned prevouisly we hope for a big turn out this year from the midwest players and players around the nation. This tournament is a fundraiser for the 2008 National Handball Collegiate Tournament and MSU Handball players, which is being held at Missouri State University. We would also enjoy seeing supporters in late February, 20th-24th, cheering on the Bears for a ten national championship!!!!

Handball is the perfect game,
Eric Hillgren President, MSU Handball

Entry form is on the right.

Grudge Match!!

09/07/2007

Join us this coming Tuesday, September 11th, for the grudge matches. Wednesday night at Sutera's a lot of words were said, and a lot of money was laid down, and the conclusion is a singles match between Matt Campion and Nick Disidore. Lou thinks that Nick's still got it, but Matt disagrees. There's only one way to settle it, on the court! And in the exciting undercard, Master's "champions" Charlie Sutera and Gary Storm will be battling Nick Scherzer and Mark Hogan in a chicken parmesean match. Hogan believes Charlie should bread his chicken parmesean, Charlie doesn't agree. So let's settle it on the court! If Nick and Hogan win, Charlie has to make them dinner that night of the Chicken Parm, only this time with breading!

The undercard begins at 4:30, the main event will follow immediately after. So come on down and enjoy some bbq, beers, and handball.

PS - New Poll on the left, vote now!

Also, the Wormburner golf tournament is September 24th, click here to view the entry form.

We had a tremendous crowd over the weekend, and the tournament was jam-packed, featuring over 132 handball players. With court temperatures hovering around 120 degrees, players were kept well hydrated and given frequent breaks to keep anyone from getting sick. Thanks to all of our friends who came in from out of town, and we look forward to having you back. Al Viets took more pictures, and I'll have that up in the next week or so.

PS - Outdoor season is not over, the weather is still nice, get your butts out to the courts!

We have one more week in league left. We're trying to make those matches outdoor matches, but the forecast this week is not good so we're going to try for next week. We're going to try to have our final party at that time as well with beers and BBQ. Only paid participants of the KCK handball league are invited.

Listed in the poll are the current finalists.

League Rules

11/21/2006

Here are the league rules for the KCK handball league starting November 30th Dec 7th:

  • 4 teams, with approximately 10 players on each team.
  • Each team will start 7 or 8 players a week.
  • 2 doubles matches, 2 singles matches, and a 5th match to be negotiated by the captains.
  • After league every Thursday we will convene at the KCAC for post match analysis. (Non-KCAC members are welcome to join us on these nights)

  • Winner keeps the ball.
  • At the end of the season, the team with the best record wins the league. There is no prize, but you will win the respect of your peers knowing you are on an awesome handball team.

Results from opening night

06/07/2006

Dick and Pat Scherzer dominated Sutera and Lapin, 21-8 and 21-5.
Craig and Slogan owned the semi-rematch against Skelly and Serrone, 21-4 and 21-10.
And in a surprise main event, Little and Duckers defeated Pfannensteil and Gaither, don't know scores.

It was a big night for the Scherzer's, so Tony Tocco was last seen pondering a leap from the Broadway Bridge. Fortunately for hell, he chose to wait a couple more weeks. All in all it was a great night, I'm trying to dig up some pictures, I'll post them if I get them. Look for another one of these in mid-July. Perhaps a rematch to the rematch?

Opening Night June 1st

05/30/2006

Join us for Hot dogs, beer, and terrible handball Thursday night. Scherzer and Hogan are demanding a rematch against Skelly and Nasty Serrone, while Dick and Pat Scherzer are playing Ed Lapin and Jim Sutera. Opening lines will be available Thursday after work.

Updates coming someday...

04/20/2006

As soon as I'm finished with the basement and over the general shock of having another baby I'll put a bunch of pictures up here. And there's plenty of more humiliating photos like the one you see on the front page. Nobody is safe from Tommy Little's new camera.
