Last week of singles

There were some brutal beatdowns in league last week, and it shifted the power focus in the league. Just kidding, it made very little difference. But it matters to me because Team Coia’s run of ineptitude has finally rewarded them a spot in last place, a position held by Hogan’s team since, well probably most of this year and last. Orel’s brief run at greatness was corralled by the Herbig freight train as well, knocking him back well below .500 with the rest of the losers. The last week of singles is this Thursday, then it’s on to the Commish tournaments.

I’ve received a lot of questions about dates for the KC Metro tournament and the KC 3 Wall. There’s a lot of tiny haggling that needs to run through before either of those can be announced, but I will go ahead and put the cart before the horse and tell you the date we are shooting for is 3/30 for the start date of the Metro.

Results

League results are updated on the league page. No change in standings, but movement from the 4th and 5th place losers, tightening up between 2nd and 3rd, now separated by 5 games. And with 8 results coming in every week, that opens the door for some spot swapping. There are no photos of league this week as all digital media has been taken and secured as evidence for the pending trial. If you have any questions, please direct them to my lawyer Skippy Leigh.

The Camels are fed, the rugs are packed, and the caravan is all ready for our journey across the Missouri dessert. Here is the roster of likely Saturday morning losers:

Campion/Recker  Open
N.Scherzer/T.Orel Open
Symon/Duckers OpenÂ
Disidore/McLaughlin 40’s
Pfannenstiel/Esser 40’s
Herbig/E.Storm 40’s
L.Serrone / N.Martin 50’s
T.Bembynista / D.McDowell 50’s
J.Duma / Looking 50’s
Hahs/Bailey – 60’s
Coia/Cosentino – 60’s

We won’t win much, but we’ll make up for it in childish behavior, poor table manners, bad hygiene, and general malcontent.

St. Louis: Please don’t serve us bottles

With me?

Back from the holidays yet? We have been and we’re going strong. Here’s what you need to know, try to keep up:

League - This week we are switching over to the intriguing ‘Singles only’ handball format for the next 5 weeks. This will either be a huge hit, or a giant bomb…or somewhere in between. The current standings has team Herbig making it a boat race, probably having already wrapped up the season. The next best team is a whopping 14 games back, so let’s play for 2nd place to keep the ratings up! Serrone’s team was keeping it respectable until the pounding they took last week by Herbig, and now they are fighting to stay above .500. Ditto for team Johnson, who took it on the chin last week from Orel and also find themselves 14.5 back and are now a half-game out of 2nd place from the free-falling “fighting spaghetti heads”. In the ‘Participation ribbon’ race, team Orel is the least of the worst, but has been steadying lately with it’s recent success, but is still pretty much out of it. Ditto for 5th place team Pickles, who split with team Hogan, who is now the official ‘Kiss your sister’ team of handball. They have pushed 3 to 3 for the last 5 straight weeks! We plan to change that for the singles stretch. 0-8 here we come! Expect lineups in the next day or so, and let’s separate the men from the goats!…seriously, people are starting to complain…the goats are complaining too. This week’s gratuitous league photo follows other headlines.

Missouri State doubles handball championship – January 27-29 at the new Hinder club in South St. Louis. We are sending our usual team of misfits and rogues and will naturally disappoint you because we did not live up to expectations, instead seduced by the sweet nectar that makes it difficult to keep our mouths shut or stand casually. We have a ‘B’ player travelling with us that needs a partner, so if you are interested in going, please let me or Serrone know at league and I will introduce you to the guy who will drink next to you after you two get blown out in the first round next weekend.

Infirmary – Be sure to congratulate my dad on his new TSA frisking device, his new steel hip. He received his second hip this morning, and is already trying to leave the hospital. Please pray for his speedy recovery.

Leeg

Standings/Results are added to league page. Session 1 is in the books and we are off until December 8th where we will pick up with the traditional format (3 singles/3 doubles). Even though I hated it because I had bad partners, the all-doubles session appeared to be a big hit. Almost all the teams were evenly matched, with the exception of Herbig’s team. They are off to a hot start due to the surprise appearance of Campion and Watson, giving them a much deeper doubles roster. But we’ll see if those two notorious vanishers will last all season. On the other end of the standings, Hogan’s team is in the doghouse right now, but hopes to bounce back in time for singles. Management already has coach Hogan on the hot seat and there’s buzzing up and down the roster for coach Scherzer to take over play-calling duties. Maybe this layover will clear Hogan’s head and he can inspire his team to victory. Team Orel is hanging tough despite injuries and finds himself only a half game out of third place. If his ace ever makes it off the couch, look out for his team. There was also the rare, brief Disidore sighting this season. As he’s often found in the wild, the Disidore was loud and rambunctious. And as soon as he was spotted and photographed, he quickly vanished and hasn’t been seen since. It’s also been great to see the WimbleDottes participating in the league. They are fighting their way onto different rosters and getting spot starts throughout the league. Setting up the next generation of rivalries for us all to enjoy. Good start everyone, keep it up. Enjoy lots of turkey, represent our club well at the Handballesta, keep the trophies out of those grubby St. Louis hands, then come back fresh and ready to dominate. Cheers!

Last night’s pics looked just like a typical Penn State coach’s meeting…

The fella's getting in a round of Old Maid before nurse ratchet comes by for their meds. Bobby giving off what we'll from now on call the eMan salute.

Joel does his best Coz impression with those short shorts. This was the only angle I could get that didn't show his hand-balls. I'm sure he was disappointed. Notice the eMan salute on the left given by the man himself.

Joel wanted me to call this the Blue Man Group retirement party. Ok!

Lighting Ceremony

from Disidore…

Ever wonder how jessica lang fell in love with King Kong?  Seriously, at what point do you say. “do you see that smelly, oversized gorilla over there?  Well, the other night he ripped me from my penthouse high rise, groped me over and over, and made me cling to his hairy back while he participated in the plane swatting festival..I think I love him.”  I don’t get it.

The wednesday (23rd) before Thanksgiving will feature the annual KCAC Christmas lighting ceremony.  Bring your lawn chairs, coolers and binoculars as you want to make sure you get a good seat when the police and fire department show up.

Highlights for the evening will include but not limited to:

  • food, beverages, singing
  • who will be seated on the surprised trap door to h*ll
  • duckers magic unicycle mystery
  • the dog and coia taffy pull
  • the reciting of the mystery sutera’s cell block C diaries
  • and other exciting things..

have a nice day but remember:  –forget it..
